On the Issues

Tough on Crime

While out-of-touch radical left Sacramento politicians are busy calling for the defunding of local police departments, convicted felons are being released early from prison. Even worse, now they’re pushing to eliminate cash bail, a move that would prevent many repeat offenders from serving a single day in jail. I believe our state needs to be tough on crime. As a local mayor, we added police officers to our community. This is why I am trusted by Sheriff Shannon Dicus and San Bernardino County’s law enforcement officers.

Immigration

I am a firm believer in legal immigration. The policies from the Biden Administration have flooded our borders with illegal immigrants because our federal and state governments refuse to build a wall and enforce unlawful immigration policies. We need to work with the federal government to reform our immigration process and strengthen our border security to penalize those who break the law.

Jobs and the Economy

As a small businessman, Smitty has spent nearly three decades creating jobs. He knows that out-of-control government spending from Sacramento politicians has created the worst inflation crisis that we’ve seen in decades. Cutting government spending, reducing government regulations, and fighting waste, fraud, and abuse will allow our economy to flourish.

Veterans

We must protect our Nation’s heroes. In March 2019, Governor Newsom wanted to put the Barstow Veterans’ Home on the budget chopping block. I stood with Congressman Jay Obernolte and the residents, saying “no.” The grassroots efforts won, and the Barstow Veterans’ Home is fully funded. Sacramento politicians often let our Veterans go forgotten – rest assured that I will never forget about the sacrifices to our Nation.

COVID-19 Mandates

The Sacramento democrats and Governor have used the COVID-19 pandemic to infringe on the personal liberties of Californians. I am adamantly opposed to mandated COVID-19 vaccinations, and I firmly believe healthcare decisions should be made by a health care professional, not by unelected bureaucrats in Sacramento.

Fighting Taxes and Bureaucracy

Democrats are shredding the budgets of rural California families. We are over-taxes and regulated by our state government. Have you noticed how job creators like Elon Musk leave California for affordable states like Arizona, Texas, and Florida? Every year Governor Newsom and the radical left continue to pass new regulations that make it harder for small businesses to survive. We must pump the break on this insanity.

2nd Amendment

I am “A” rated by the National Rifle Association (NRA). I believe that all law-abiding citizens should have the right to own a firearm. Subversive efforts to undermine this right violate the U.S. Constitution. I oppose any efforts to ban firearms and other anti-gun legislation that erodes our liberties.

Religious Liberty

Our core religious freedoms are under fire by the far-left democrats in Sacramento every day. They want to silence those who embrace traditional values. I will continue to defend our religious liberties. I believe in the sanctity of life and have spent my legislative career protecting the rights of the unborn.

Fighting Industrial-Scale Illegal Marijuana Grows

The rural desert communities are plagued with illegal marijuana grows run by dangerous cartels. This is why I have been working with local law enforcement and our district attorney to give them tools to prosecute dangerous criminal enterprises that build illegal marijuana grows. In addition to crime, these cartels steal water from farmers and rural desert residents.

Restore Local Control for Our Students

Our local schools have been over-regulated by unelected bureaucrats requiring vaccinations and masks. I fully support returning spending and curriculum decisions to the local school boards – not Sacramento bureaucrats. California has a track record of failure for our students, and I remain committed to local control of education and parental choice.
