Thurston “Smitty” Smith is a constitutional conservative, a small business owner, and a dedicated family man. For over two decades, he worked as a concrete contractor in the Southern California desert, standing up for middle-class families and fighting against policies threatening jobs and economic growth.

A two-term Mayor of Hesperia, Mojave Water Agency Director, and Assemblyman for the 33rd District, Smitty is known for tackling government waste, addressing inflation and the economy, fighting the defund-the-police movement, and combatting illegal cartel-run cannabis operations to keep communities safe.

Devoted to his family and community, Smitty and his wife, Margaret, have lived in the High Desert for over 30 years. They created the Brandon E. Smith Memorial Scholarship after the tragic loss of their son, supporting local students’ education.
